Since opening in 2003 at 306 High Street, Preston, Step Ahead Education has offered academic support to hundreds of students in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. We cater for students from Grade One to Year 12. We also assist adults with various university subjects, diploma courses and Certificate Four subjects.
The centre is owned and operated by Virginia Lucas (BA; GradDipAppSci; MEd). She has worked in the field of education since 1982 in both government (Eltham High & Canterbury Girls Secondary College) and private schools (Wesley College and Ivanhoe Grammar) as well as with adults in the corporate world (Drake Training).
She is gentle and sympathetic; many parents have turned to Virginia over the years for guidance regarding managing their child’s academic progress and how to deal with teachers and the school environment in general.
All staff at this centre are trained teachers or have a Masters Level Degrees in their areas of specialty. Most are registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and currently work in schools.
We cater for children from Grade One through to Year Twelve. Over the years, we have also provided learning support to many mature-age students. These students have gone on to complete police and nursing exams and a wide variety of certificate two, diploma and degree courses.
While parents have weekly access to their child’s teacher, the main contact person is Virginia, who began the business more than two decades ago from scratch. Having one point of contact means session times can be changed where necessary, programmes and progress can be discussed as can any other matters relating to the learning needs of the students.
